"This is the oldest song on the CD. I co-wrote it in 2010 at a week-long songwriting camp in Austria. I won a songwriting contest on SonicBids (the winning song was Long Road Home, the title track of my first CD) and the 1st prize was a week in Austria at a songwriting camp. It was a fantastic experience, getting to write with European songwriters, artists and producers.

My co-writer on this song, Jerry Lindqvist, is an Americana and Alt-Country artist born and raised in Finland on a steady diet of Townes Van Zandt and Hank Willliams. We wrote the song addressed to a fictional character who is modeled after a former close friend of mine. The character, like my friend, is very talented and very troubled. Whenever anything good in his life starts happening—love relationship, musical success, even a close friendship--he finds a way to blow the situation up. It’s like a pre-emptive strike. If he ends the relationship first, then he can never be in a place where someone can break up with him. He burns the bridge so there’s no chance anyone will see him vulnerable. The singer asks him to let her be the bridge he doesn’t burn."
